Some countries have EV subsidies or tax incentives to encourage people to switch to EV.

Do we even know if the current power grid has enough capacity to support mass adoption of EV charging. If current infrastructure is just enough to power home what happens when the electricity demand suddenly increases by a lot. Maybe part of the reason why government is doing lip services to appear green but actually have no intention to push EV forward aggressively.

Now why would they want to give incentives? Gas is cheap here…who will buy gas nanti if more n more people switched to EV. It’s not in their interest…don’t get me started on carbon emissions and all those tree hugging things. It does not apply here. 😄

IMHO, EV in this day and age is still useless in our country. We still generate our electricity burning fossil fuel. Better go hybrid. Best of both worlds. You wanna charge those at home? Look at USMS increasing the rate of power usage right under our noses. It would not be profitable in the long run. Unless you fully utilize solar power in your household and have some surplus power generated on the side, then yes its profitable to own an EV car.
The reason Brunei pushes the headline to launch and hype EV vehicles is for the global media. Its a propaganda of sorts. They dont want the rest of the world to see Brunei as sebuah negara kuno yg undeveloped. So, they just hopped in the bandwagon of EV.
Furthermore, taxes in brunei works differently. Even if you bring in for instance; a super miracle car that burns no fuel, uses no power, 1000% safe for motorists and pedestrians and pets, cures cancer, visible from outer space, foldable, stackable, magical, self cleaning, generates iman, prints money, can read minds or whatever lah ah..the import tax is based on the fact that it is still a car.
Some countries, the road tax is based on emissions ratings, they even strictly enforce it through yearly inspection. Brunei, its based on engine displacement and thats it. Then the inspection is basic, as long as it looks and functions as a car with minimal safety equipment, its a go. I legit has seen cars that are rusted through, lacks structural integrity it could explode anytime and have parts strewn all around in public space which could jeopardize public safety; got a brand spanking shiny new roadtax. Which means it passed the inspection. Strange. (Mun phm bisai)
Also, importers love that sweet sweet profit. Just because its new and exciting even though it's ugly, they got away with overcharging it due to lack of competition. EV cars available here are darn horrendous...I just can't fathom the tastes of those who purchases them. I'm sorry but yeah, I said it. Can someone bring in Polestar please? At least its pleasing to look at.
Which brings me to this point, EV cars have even bigger carbon footprints than ICE cars. So whoever buys EV cars just to "go green" is most likely an uninformed uneducated shortminded selfish hypocrite that just likes to flex their wealth. Just my 2cents. Cheers. Oh I do apologize for my language.

Brunei does not equal malaysia.
Population of Malaysia 33.94 million
Population of Brunei 449,002.
If 1% of population of malaysia bought EV that would be 339000 EV. If 1% of population of Brunei bought EV that would be 4490 EV.
Would the car company make as much money?
