The recent stopover made by His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah and Her Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Maimunah Iskandariah binti Al-Marhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj and members of the Malaysian royal family to the Sultanate brought memorable moments for members of the Malaysian High Commission to Brunei Darussalam. Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Dato’ Raja Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah said, “My wife and I had the privilege to welcome His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong at the Labu Control Post on Thursday along with Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman and Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid together with their spouses as Their Majesties officially entered the Brunei-Malaysia borders from Lawas.” Despite the few hours delay of entry due to the extraordinary and warm welcome given by the Sabah people to the royal couple at the previous stops in Beaufort, Sipitang, Sindumin and Lawas, Dato’ Raja Reza was amazed that a large crowd had waited near the Labu Control Post as early as 4pm. Speaking to the Bulletin, the Malaysian High Commissioner said as he joined the royal couple’s convoy headed for The Empire Brunei, he saw hundreds of people lining up on both sides of the roads who had been waiting patiently to greet Their Majesties. “It was heartwarming for me to see the enthusiastic crowd and hundreds of cars parked on both roadsides to get a glimpse of the royal couple. Some waved Malaysian and Bruneian flags and cheered ‘Welcome to Brunei’ as the royal couple’s convoy passed them. One of the most memorable moment was when Their Majesties and other royal members stopped their vehicle and took photos in the middle of SHOAS Bridge. He further shared that the same atmosphere filled the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah during the Friday prayers as congregants had the rare opportunity to get up close and shake hands with His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
