Standard Chartered Bank Brunei (SCB) observed the group’s annual Employee Volunteering Month in June with activities where employees participate to do good for the community. Employee Volunteering Month, an initiative championed by Standard Chartered Group CEO Bill Winters, encourages everyone to make a difference by supporting local communities or help protect the environment. Head of SCB Corporate Affairs Brand and Marketing Marilyn Graeme said, “The response from our colleagues towards Employee Volunteering Month demonstrates our commitment to supporting our global programmes locally and to use our skills and experiences to give back to our communities. The bank will continue to deliver on our brand promise of being ‘Here for Good’ and seeing the positive impact we can make through our efforts.” During the Employee Volunteering Month, staff participated in a blood donation, beach cleaning and Home Run for fund raising towards Futuremakers. For the blood donation drive, SCB partnered with Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital Blood Bank Unit and Hua Ho Department Store to host the activity at Hua Ho Mall Manggis. Over 80 participants from the public and SCB staff rolled up their sleeves for the cause. On Hsien Chun from Hua Ho Management said, “We are glad to be part of the blood donation event which aims to give back to the community. This is an opportunity for the community to come together to help those in need. Some 223.8 kilogrammes of trash were collected in an effort to beautify Brunei’s natural landscape and to ensure that the beaches remain clean. Just under 20 staff volunteers took part in the beach cleaning event. Staff volunteer Ang Hui Na said, “It was a great experience for my first beach cleaning activity with the bank. At the same time, it is disheartening to see all sorts of trash washed up on the beach and this hits hard on the thought that these are polluting the homes of our aquatic friends. “I hope through initiatives like this, we can do more to raise the awareness to our community, friends and family.” To conclude the Employee Volunteering Month, employees also participated in the bank’s global initiative, known as Home Run 2023 where they can participate as a team or individual to take up the challenge to complete an aggregated long-distance run, walk, swim and/or cycle and fundraise for Standard Chartered Foundation to support Futuremakers by Standard Chartered. The fundraiser for Futuremakers will help support young people across the bank’s footprint to learn, earn and grow where this would not always otherwise be possible.
