The Syariah Affairs Department in Brunei recently conducted an operation targeting eateries in Kampong Kiarong, Kampong Mata-Mata and Kampong Beribi. 35 out of 89 inspected eateries were found operating without halal certification, violating the Halal Certificate Order and Halal Label 2005. These establishments have been given six months to apply for the mandatory certification. Failure to comply could result in fines up to BND8,000, imprisonment, or both.
