Lyna Mohamad, Azlan Othman & Rokiah Mahmud The spirit of giving continues unabated, with daily donation ceremonies held in the hopes of lessening the financial burden shouldered by orphans and the underprivileged as they prepare for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. The Suri Seri Begawan Raja Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque in Kampong Madang Manggis held its annual Khatam Al-Quran and presentation of donations to orphans on Thursday. Minister of Home Affairs cum Adviser to the mosque’s takmir committee Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong handed over the donations to 40 orphans. The ceremony began after mass Asar prayers with Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar leading the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah. The event continued with participants reciting the Khatam Al-Quran, followed by recitations of Takhtim and Tahlil. Bilal Razman bin Haji Ramlee led the recitation of Doa Khatam before the Dikir Marhaban performance, while Imam Khaizuran Amali bin Haji Kamsani led the recitation of Doa Selamat and Doa Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam. Meanwhile, numerous agencies have chipped in towards the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA), bringing the total donated sum to BND78,466. The Group of Wives of Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries and affiliated members contributed BND11,950, presented by Datin Paduka Hajah Jahrah binti Haji Mohamad, the spouse of the Minister of Home Affairs cum the group’s Chairperson II. Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College (MDPMAMB) contributed BND1,300, handed over by MDPMAMB representative Dayangku Hajah Nooramaliatifah binti Pengiran Haji Ahmad. The funds are five per cent proceeds from the Virtual MD Fun Walk 2021 held last April. Pertofes, represented by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Effendi bin Said, presented a BND1,000 contribution, while the Brunei Students’ Union Wellbeing United Kingdom chipped in BND500, handed over by its secretary, Hanah binti Omarali. DANA Acting CEO Ahmad Jefri bin Abdul Rahman also attended. Meanwhile, 30 underprivileged trainees at An-Nur Harapan/UnikLearn were treated to a sungkai meal at Anjung Saujana Restaurant at the Brunei International Airport on Thursday. The welfare programme also saw the attendees receiving donations, presented by An-Nur Harapan Board of Director and Chairman Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman bin Pengiran Haji Damit and Rinawaty binti Abdullah @ Suzanne Rahaman. The donations were derived from Nazmi Textile Mall founder and Managing Director Nazeer Ahamed. UnikLearn staff also received donations. An-Nur Harapan funds and manages UnikLearn, which is a life skills and training programme to help youth with different abilities live independently and secure employment.
