“2060s What the Africa?” . Why dragging Africa in to this???! Leave 2060, even in 2020s majority of African countries are ‘potentially’ prosperous than this so called ‘Oil rich country’, and many are in fact richer than Brunei. Only issue with couple of African countries is political instability. Brunei has nothing to flex in front of Africa, just realize that. Infact, just search juba, capital of South Sudan, the poorest country in the world, resembles BSB

In the late 70s and early 80s, people from Miri were taking the 3-4 hour trips including the 2 ferry rides into KB just to buy things like Electronics, car parts, alcohol, food, etc. because Brunei was so much cheaper than Miri for those items. Because Brunei was also booming with oil money trickling down, Miri people were looking for jobs in Brunei as well, not only in the O&G industry, but also in construction, waitressing, etc.

Even until the late 90s and early 2000s Mirians were travelling to Brunei for Jerudong Park (free!), Escapade Sushi (still cheaper than sushi in Miri and better quality), etc. But during this time, Bruneians, especially from the Belait district were already travelling to Miri to do their grocery shopping, to buy alcohol after Brunei banned it in the mid 80s, etc.

Now, with all the bans in Brunei, and the decreasing strength of the MYR, Bruneians are not only travelling to Miri for grocery shopping, but also for cheaper furniture, car parts and service, gardening supplies, animal food, diapers and baby formula, entertainment, sightseeing (check the large amount of IG and Tiktok posts of Bruneians in Miri) and now even travel via MYY airport. There's not much reason for Miri people to come to Brunei. The last reason - good air links from BWN, is gone with the introduction of Air Asia (and now Scoot) to Miri where they can just take a cheaper one-stop flight via KL or Singapore to go anywhere instead of the 2hr-plus ride to BWN.

Should we remind you that Miri was in complete disarray when covid hit and we were not allowed to travel?

I get it I hate Brunei as much as the next Bruneian but Miri don't get to hate with us

So what? I still respect and love my country. Look at Brunei size as well miri which is part of Sarawak. Sarawak is also rich with oil. Compare to Africa? We should be grateful we have no serious health, hunger crisis like them, we have free school fees on all levels including university even some students will get allowance or scholarship.
