Fadhil Yunus His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman attended the final day of the Aewon Open Badminton Championship 2021 at the Youth Centre in the capital last night. Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim and his partner Dessen Chung Min Tin finished runners-up in the Under-14 Boys’ Doubles category following a 10-21 and 13-21 defeat to the pairing of Md Talipuddin Ermadena and Mohd Haziq Roze in the final. Also present at the event was Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah. PHOTO: INFOFOTO The grand finale witnessed Md Iqbal Asyraf Muhammad winning the coveted Men’s Singles title following a straight set (21-13, 22-20) win over Ahmad Mahyuddin Haji Abas. The duo of Mohd Shahirul Md Jenin and Siti Marinah Md Salleh won the Mixed Doubles Open category following a 21-15 22-24 21-11 victory over the pairing of Hairuddin Md Yusof and Janey Koh. In the Under-14 Boys’ Singles final, Md Haziq Roze emerged winners after defeating Dessen Chung Min Tin 21-19 21-14 in the final. The pairing of Nuraqilah Haji Shahroney and Siti Marinah Md Salleh won the Women’s Doubles Open title following a 21-19, 21-13 victory over the duo of Janey Koh Yen Yen and Nicole Leong. The duo of Awangku Azri Safwan bin Pengiran Haji Jofri and Woo Chang Huei emerged winners in the Men’s Doubles Open ‘B’ category following a 21-8 21–13 win over the partnership of Abdul Syafiq Abdullah and Md Shari Haji Lamat. Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad presented prizes to the winners. The eight categories contested were Men’s Doubles Open ‘A’, Men’s Doubles Open ‘B’, Men’s Doubles Veteran Open (aged 45 and above), Mixed Doubles Open, Women’s Doubles Open, Men’s Singles Open, Men’s Under-14 Boys Singles And Under-14 Boys’ Doubles. The tournament served as a platform to identify potential players that could be drafted into the national badminton association. It was organised by the Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Association (BDNBA) with the cooperation of Aewon Brunei and supported by the Youth and Sports Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Brunei-Muara District Office.
