Azlan Othman Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha said the new norm after COVID-19 gives opportunity to re-evaluate the effectiveness of the projects, strategies as well as measuring the achievements and quality of services provided by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) and the departments under it. Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary said this during a dialogue session between MTIC and 18 Legislative Council (LegCo) members at MTIC yesterday. Permanent Secretary at the MTIC Ir Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications) at the MTIC Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport) at the MTIC Haji Mohd Salihin bin Haji Aspar, directors, heads of departments, heads of executive authorities, Interim Commissioner of Cyber Security Brunei, senior officers and officers at the ministry were also present. The minister added, this includes its alignment with other national master plans as well as supporting Brunei Vision 2023. The ministry has made a mid-term review of the MTIC’s Strategic Plan, namely MTIC 2025. PHOTO: AZLAN OTHMAN The focus of the next action is on the preparation and updating of the Work Procedure Manual (MPK) – the organisation will be more focussed in carrying out its role, the minister said. Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary stressed on the need to follow the required standards especially in providing services to the public and maintaining safety. The minister then touched on performance monitoring which ensures the implementation of strategies and the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs) as well as in project management, he said. The minister added that the ministry has identified matters that may threaten the efficiency of the ministry and the departments. Twenty-three risks have been identified and each will require a mitigation plan and will be reviewed from the present time. Among them are ensuring the safety and security of assets and personnel; cyber threats; provision of an effective and sustainable public transport system; disruption to network services; inadequacy of human resources in critical positions; maintenance of critical and essential equipment; effectiveness in implementing enforcement and regulation; and challenges to achieve excellence in implementing strategies. LegCo member Yang Berhormat Chong Chin Yee who led the delegation lauded Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI) of Brunei Darussalam for setting a good example on the website for government services in showcasing creativity and accessibility. She hoped that other government departments can use the website as an example. LegCo members were also briefed by Haji Mohammad Nazri. LegCo members then visited an exhibition and briefed on the pilot application of the Passenger Bus Information System. The session was an annual discussion forum aimed to exchange ideas, examine challenges related to the transport and infocommunications sector, review the achievements and strategic planning of the ministry as well as strengthen the relationship with LegCo members.
