A total of 188 officers and staff from the Ministry of Home Affairs were honoured Long Service Medal (PKL) for 2023 in conjunction with the 77th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman presented the medals. Acting Commanding Officer of the Female Prison Acting Superintendent of Prisons Hajah Rosni binti Kurus expressed gratitude on receiving the PKL. She said, “I feel blessed and honoured to receive this medal, recognising my over 20 years of service.” She added, “I extend my deepest gratitude to His Majesty and our department’s director for the support.” Hajah Rosni emphasised her dedication to uniformed service since she worked in the Prisons Department for 24 years, starting in 1999. She highlighted her roles at the Al-Islah Rehabilitation Centre and the Prisons Department’s training centre, contributing through hard work, adherence to regulations and maintaining discipline. Her advice for the new staff include patience, strict adherence to regulations, and punctuality. Meanwhile, Sergeant Wardress Siti Habibah binti Haji Mahbub, reflecting on her nearly 24 years of service, said, “I feel blessed and deeply touched by the recognition of my service with the medal I received.” She added, “I extend my heartfelt appreciation to His Majesty, the Minister of Home Affairs and the Director of the Prisons Department for the support.” During her tenure in the Prisons Department, Siti Habibah served as a public relations officer, educating the community about the Prison Department’s role and mission. She believes her efforts helped change public perceptions of former inmates returning to society. She stressed on the importance for new prison personnel to uphold discipline, integrity and honesty in their duties. Assistant Station Officer Sohardi bin Haji Piut from the Fire and Rescue Department felt happy to accept the medal and extended his gratitude to His Majesty and the Director of Fire and Rescue Department for the support.
