Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as the new Co-Lead of ASEAN University Network (AUN)-Technology Enhanced Personalised Learning (TEPL) during the AUN-TEPL Working Meeting 2023 at Singapore Management University (SMU) on May 25. SMU chairs the AUN-TEPL thematic network, and the other Co-Lead Universities include Universiti Malaya (Malaysia) and Mahidol University (Thailand). The event took place at the Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium, at SMU Campus from May 25 to 26. AUN is a network of 30 ASEAN universities building partnerships in higher education. AUN has 17 thematic networks focussed on collaboration among member universities in specialised areas of higher education. AUN-TEPL is a collaborative initiative aimed at harnessing the potential of technology to innovate and personalise the learning experience across AUN member universities. The workplan meeting, themed ‘Charting New Frontiers: Empowering Learners through Technology-Enhanced Personalised Learning’, aimed to bring together universities to exchange ideas, connect with change agents, share insights, and explore collaborative projects in four key areas: co-creating faculty development resources that can stimulate TEPL; facilitating multilateral exchange of courses for credit transfer across AUN universities; sharing and amplifing the use of digital learning resources on Multimedia Educational Repository for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT); and collaborating on TEPL research projects. The MoU aims to establish a collaborative framework and expresses a commitment by the co-lead universities to work towards the mission of the thematic network, including facilitating workshops, creating a collaborative platform for educational tools and content, and stimulating cross-university collaboration. University of South Australia Dean of Programmes (Information Technology & Mathematics) in UniSA STEM Professor Abelardo Pardo presented on ‘Using Learning Analytics to Personalise Student Support’. Professor Pardo highlighted on the use of learning analytics model to facilitate students’ learning experiences and to achieve eﬀective personalisation. UBD, alongside co-lead universities SMU, Mahidol University and Universiti Malaya, contributed to the collaborative discussions during the workplan meeting. The meeting aimed to foster international partnerships and drive forward the mission of AUN-TEPL in advancing technology-enhanced personalised learning within the ASEAN region. The thematic network aims to drive positive change and contribute to the overall personalised learning aspect of higher education in the ASEAN region. The UBD delegation including Deputy Director of the UBD Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L) Dr Nik Ani Aﬁqah binti Haji Mohamad Tuah and UBD Teaching and Learning Centre Head Dr Hajah Syamimi binti Haji Mohd Ariﬀ Lim also visited the SMU Academy where they were briefed on innovative teaching methodologies and cutting-edge technologies designed for lifelong learning. The workplan meeting ended on May 26 with the universities committed to collaborate in improving students’ success through technology-enhanced personalised learning, where eﬀective teaching will cater to the diﬀerent abilities of diﬀerent learners.
