Unfortunately, 'AI' is the latest in a long line of buzzwords used in MoE, like 'Information Superhighway', and 'Industrial Revolution 4.0' which were frequently tossed around in the 1990s and 2010s. These terms were used a lot in meetings but ultimately only projected an image of innovation, rather than being implemented with genuine benefit to staff and students.
In reality, many students can barely use Excel or Word to a high proficiency. As for staff, well, many teachers did not even know they were marking AI-generated essays for more than a year until alarm bells were set off. I don't think they would have ever figured it out if it weren't for the essays being 'too good' for the students in question.
We tried so hard to implement Industrial Revolution (IR) 4.0, but are stuck in IR3.0/3.5. Most schools don't even have projectors and teachers have to pay their own money to buy them, as well as laptops and other electronics. Need to send documents by hand so often, and even when they do it digitally, they tell you to also submit hard copy. And my gosh, we don't even have internet access for staff/students and have to depend on donations, and you want to talk about AI?
Stop putting the cart before the horse.

Talk is easy. Until now I still cannot see any students or teachers using A.I. apart from the usual Powerpoint and Words. Excel is just meh.

aww how cute MoE be talking about AI. Government still uses physical letters and submissions for applications instead of portal or email... but dares talk about AI? What a joke. Learn to crawl before you walk, please. Adang memalukan diri

Artificial intelligence (AI) integration in education is a “transformative force” aligned with the Ministry of Education’s strategic plan, an official said yesterday.
“As we pursue our national vision and carve our way towards a dynamic economy, AI’s role becomes crucial for nurturing future-ready learners and enhancing educational innovation. It offers personalised learning, and data-driven insights, and prepares students for future challenges, essential for our digital transformation journey,” said Head of the Science, Technology, Environment and Partnership (STEP) Centre Hajah Suriani binti Haji Noor Hashim during the launch of the AI Guidance for Schools Toolkit Workshop at the Raja Isteri Girls High School (STPRI).
“By integrating AI into our digital transformation efforts, we can ensure that our education system remains dynamic and capable of adapting to future technological advancements,” she said.
“For example, AI can be used in preparing lessons in blended learning and STEM/STEAM approaches, whilst developing learners as digitally literate citizens,” she added.
The STEP Centre head said the workshop also aligns with global movements towards AI literacy, emphasising ethical use and its broader application across various fields.
“The toolkit is a living document that will evolve alongside AI advancements, ensuring our education system remains at the forefront of innovation,” she added.
Yesterday’s opening ceremony was officiated by Acting Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman.
A keynote presentation, ‘Leveraging Generative AI to Enhance Classroom Learning and Efficiency’, was delivered through an online platform by Director of the SEAMEO STEM-ED Regional Centre (Thailand) Dr Kritsachai Somsaman.
A presentation on how ‘AI is Changing Our Lives’ was delivered by Department of Educators Management officer Mohammad Syafiq bin Haji Abu Bakar. The event saw school leaders and teachers from primary and secondary schools, sixth form centres, Arabic schools and Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah attend either in-person or via an online platform.
Several workshops are scheduled to take place until July 27, involving 318 participants comprising cluster heads, school leaders and teachers. These workshops will introduce participants to the AI Guidance for Schools Toolkit, providing essential knowledge and skills to integrate AI software into the teaching and learning process, and emphasising the importance of ethical AI practices. – James Kon

I found the information below and here's a summary
Isn't it amusing how the Ministry of Education is all about integrating AI while many schools are still using physical letters? It's like preparing for a rocket launch but only having a bicycle! Talk about needing to catch up with the times! 🚀
