Izah Azahari Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation for Vocational and Technical (SEAMEO Voctech) Centre Director Alias bin Haji Abu Bakar during the opening of the Training of Trainers on March 13, said the certification programme has been designed to yield the best results in future training sessions. “The modules will guide you with the mechanisms of designing, developing, delivering your in-company training to boost productivity and performance of Unified National Networks (UNN) workforce,” he said. He added that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Centre continues its pursuit to increase professional development efforts in SEAMEO member countries. The SEAMEO VOCTECH strengthened its professional development efforts by conducting a subsequent In-Country Training programme for Myanmar and two back-to-back Training of Trainers for local clients this month. The TVET Centre welcomed 29 training alumni earlier this month comprising TVET facilitators from Myanmar who had successfully completed the virtual in-country training programme on ‘Managing TVET Institutions in Response for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0)’. The course was facilitated by the centre’s training and professional development manager Dr Jaya Priah Kasinathan. The training is designed to equip the candidates with skills to effectively deliver courses and be competent trainers. It was co-facilitated by SEAMEO Voctech’s TVET Consultant cum Head of Quality Assurance Division Silva Das Rajagopal and TVET specialist for teacher education cum Knowledge Management Manager Reena Lim Bee Yew. The Training of Trainers programme received 20 participants during the month. Batch 9 comprised participants from various private companies while Batch 10 made up of 10 UNN employees. The centre has also expanded its consultancy outreach to Timor-Leste. Its National Institute for Workforce Development (INDMO) has commissioned SEAMEO Voctech to revise and update two national manuals – the Competency Standards Development Manual and the Operational Licensing and Accreditation Manual; to develop a new certification, Recognition and Equalisation of Competency Manual; and to build INDMO’s institutional capability. The centre’s pursuit to undertake activities in professional development and consultancy services beyond the national border is in keeping with its mandate to assist SEAMEO member countries to identify and solve common problems in technical vocational education and training. The regional TVET Centre remains pro-active in developing innovative programmes and research activities and has set more plans for the coming year.
