Three local students, awarded the 2023/2024 Brunei Darussalam-Singapore Youth Scholarship yesterday, will continue their secondary education abroad. Twelve-year-olds Glen Marcus Hong Tai Fu, Muhammad Raziq Zafran bin Muhammad Amin and Adam Rafie bin Rewandi will attend schools in Singapore over the next four years. Glen Marcus from Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait will be attending Victoria Secondary School. Meanwhile, Muhammad Raziq Zafran from Jigsaw Primary School and Adam Rafie will be going to Ngee Ann Secondary School. An award and agreement signing ceremony was held at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah auditorium yesterday. Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh was the guest of honour. Rosimah Sumaimah said the students went through a rigorous selection process. “They are among the higher achievers of the recent Primary School Assessment (PSR) examination and they participated in a two-day camp at the Outward-Bound Brunei Darussalam (OBBD) where they showcased not just their academic abilities but also teamwork, leadership, and adaptability,” she said. Following the camp, “they faced mathematics and English language written exams conducted by the Singapore Examination and Assessment Board. “This process ensured that the selected students not only have strong academic skills but also possess the qualities needed to thrive in a new and challenging environment,” she added. Rosimah Sumaimah said, “This achievement is not only a testament to the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of these remarkable students but also reflects the commitment of their schools and the guidance of their teachers.” “As you step into this new phase of your education in Singapore, remember that learning is a lifelong adventure. Embrace it with enthu-siasm, curiosity and an open mind. Seize every opportunity to broaden your horizons, not just academically, but culturally and socially as well. Singapore offers a rich tapestry of experiences,” she advised the new scholars. “I encourage you to immerse yourselves in the diverse and vibrant environment it provides. Study hard, but also remember to cultivate a balance between academics and personal growth. Engage in extracurricular activities, make friends from different backgrounds, and embrace the challenges that come your way,” she added. – James Kon
