Lyna Mohamad The blended learning method at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) has allowed teachers and students to make the most out of technology, not just for teaching but also learning in daily life, allowing UBD to strengthen the life-long learning elements in its programmes. This was said by Acting Vice-Chancellor of UBD Pengiran Dr Mohammad Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Petra in his welcoming remarks at the University Medal and Book Prize Awards yesterday held in conjunction with the 33rd UBD Convocation Ceremony. Eighty-four graduates from the recent convocation ceremony were honoured by the university for achievements in their studies. On hand at the Chancellor Hall to present the awards was Minister of Education and Chairman of UBD Council Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman as the guest of honour. Also present were Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Deputy Chairman of UBD Council Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Deputy Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Attorney General Haji Ahmad bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UBD Pengiran Dr Mohammad Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Petra, as well as permanent secretaries and deputy permanent secretaries. Yesterday’s ceremony saw the presentation of 91 medals to 84 graduates. Six were recipients of the coveted University Silver Medal Award: Awangku Ahmad Zawawi bin Pengiran Haji Asmali, Nur Amalina binti Aliudin, Muhammad Nur Azri @ Muhammad Adli Azri bin Haji Mahari, Muhammad Meerza Helmi Uzapuspa, Chong Cuang Haw and Jason Lee Zse Jin. A Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical and Process Engineering) graduate Jason Lee Zse Jin received three awards – Level 4000 and 5000 (Majors) Book Prize and a sponsored prize from Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd. The recipients of the University Book Prize comprised 13 Master’s graduates and 67 Bachelor’s graduates for their outstanding performances during their programmes. Out of the 67 Bachelor’s degree Book Prize recipients, 24 were recipients for Level 4000 and 5000 (Majors), 26 for Level 2000 and 3000 (Majors), and 16 for Level 1000 (Majors). One graduate, Amirah binti Haji Ghazali from the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Medicine) programme, received the Book Prize for her outstanding performance in the Malay Islam Monarchy (MIB) module while two high performing diploma graduates, Ampuan Yusliza Ampuan Mumali @ Yusof and Major Ho Jin Peng – received Awards of Achievement during the ceremony. The event was also attended by officers and staff, sponsors as well as award recipients’ family members. The University Medal and Book Prize Awards is held annually in conjunction with the UBD convocation ceremony to honour the achievements of outstanding students.
