Four vintage sarees added to Museum Dept’s collection

Four vintage sarees were added to the Museums Department’s collection, courtesy of the Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam. The donation yesterday was aimed at strengthening cultural ties between the Sultanate and Bangladesh.

The handover was held during the Bangladesh Textile Exhibition at the Malay Technology Museum in Kota Batu.

Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona said Brunei and Bangladesh have forged strong bonds of friendship, cooperation and mutual respect. The textile exhibition is a testament to cultural commonalities and understanding that have flourished between the two nations, she said.

The high commissioner also said that the exhibition showcases the rich heritage and diversity of Bangladeshi textiles as well as a celebration of the people’s enduring spirit and timeless artistry passed down through generations.

The exhibition was held to commemorate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Brunei, she added.

Acting Director of the Museums Department Pengiran Haji Rosli bin Pengiran Haji Halus said the textile industry holds a special place in the history and culture of both the countries.

“It is a source of national pride and identity passed down through generations,” said Pengiran Haji Rosli. “With the cooperation between the Museums Department and the Bangladesh High Commission to organise the exhibition, it marks an achievement in bilateral relations and opens up further cooperation in cultural exchange.”

Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud officiated the opening ceremony that also saw a musical performance.
