His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to grace the 33rd Teacher’s Day celebration at the Plenary Hall of the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas yesterday. Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah. Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman and Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh as the Co-Chairpersons of the ceremony as well as members of the Teacher’s Day Executive Committee. The ceremony began with the recitation of *Surah Al-Fatihah* dedicated to Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam and teachers who have passed on by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned. PHOTO: INFOFOTO & KHAYR ZAKARIYYA His Majesty and members of the royal family also consented to a photo session with the award recipients and members of Brunei Darussalam 33rd National Teachers Day Celebration 2023 Executive Committee. Before leaving the event, His Majesty consented to a Junjung Ziarah from teachers and students as well as performance participants. During the event, His Majesty also graced the launch of two books by the Ministry of Education and viewed an exhibition aligning with this year’s theme, *‘Guru Berkualiti Pemacu Transformasi Pendidikan’*. The Exhibition Hall featured the transformation of education before, during and after COVID-19 in Brunei Darussalam. The Centerpiece Room displayed excerpts from His Majesty’s *Titah* and poem of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, while booth 1 featured the two newly-launched publications namely The Ministry of Education Strategic Plan 2023-2027 and Education Resilience: Brunei Darussalam’s COVID-19 Journey. Other exhibitions included Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam displaying the construction of the new special education school as well as Department of Schools’ Pilot Project of Pembelajaran Membaca Renaissance Programme 2023, STAR Reading, Accelerated Reader, myON and STAR Early Literacy. Entrepreneurship Innovation Centre (EIC) showcased EIC VR, a holistic digital platform which aims to become a focal platform for education by enabling mentorship, talks and forums, workshop and exposure to entrepreneurship and innovation programmes local and abroad. – Lyna Mohamad
