Lyna Mohamad The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT), through the Tourism Development Department, will hold the 2nd Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition 2022 (Brunei MYCE 2022) at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas from June 1 to July 2. This was announced at a press conference at the MPRT yesterday, chaired by Permanent Secretary at the MPRT Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab in her capacity as Co-secretary of the Brunei MYCE 2022 Committee. Committee co-secretaries comprising Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, permanent secretaries at the Ministry of Development, Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) and Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle, deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Energy, D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd representative as well as several senior officers from agencies were present to share programmes and activities for the event. Brunei MCYE 2022 will focus on conference and exhibition events that gather specialists and key players in specific fields and is an initiative to achieve the strategic objectives of the Tourism Development Department (JKP), MPRT to draw MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) tourism market, particularly ‘business travellers’ to the Sultanate. PHOTO: SIM YH Through the involvement of local and international speakers and participants, the initiative is in tandem with JKP’s mission of raising the number of tourists and contribute towards the economic activities growth including hotels, airlines, restaurants and transportation. Themed ‘Inclusive, Resilient and Sustainable Economic Growth – Brunei Darussalam Perspective’, the conference and exhibition events this year will cover five main clusters – Islamic, digital technology, energy, climate change and economy. Among the contents planned for the event to date are Conference on ‘Waqaf: Realising the Waqaf Comprehensive Implementation and Management in Brunei Darussalam’ organised by the MoRA, International Seminar on ‘Halal Tourism and Hospitality (ISHTaH 2022)’ by UNISSA, Brunei Darussalam Syariah Advisory Conference 2022 on ‘Syariah Governance Framework: Quality vs Compliance’ by Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) through Brunei Institute of Leadership and Islamic Finance (BILIF). Also featured are ‘Brunei Darussalam Conference on Digital Technology: Towards a Transformed New Norm’ by the MTIC; ‘Hybrid International Conference on Current Trends of Islamic Technology in Research and Innovation’, by UNISSA; seminar and symposium related to oil and gas upstream and downstream and renewable energy organised by the Ministry of Energy and Brunei Shell Joint Venture (BSJC); ‘Conference on Climate Change’ jointly organised by the Ministry of Development through the Brunei Darussalam Climate Change Secretariat (BCCS), the Ministry of Energy and UBD; seminar and symposium themed ‘Towards Sustainable and Dynamic Economy’ by the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE); ‘Islamic Economy Forum’ by UNISSA; and ‘Borneo International Conference on Agrotechnology’ organised by UTB. There will also be an exhibition by D’Sunlit featuring different concepts each week and offering programmes and activities for visitors. Brunei MYCE 2022 is organised in collaboration with government and private agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), local and international universities and higher learning institutions and is also supported by Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST) as official telco partner. The organiser will also be working with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and ICC to ensure the event adheres to the standard operating procedures (SOPs). Visitors will be required to scan the BruHealth QR code at main entrances. Those who feel unwell or show symptoms of infection are not allowed to participate.
