Lyna Mohamad With COVID-19 restrictions and quarantine requirement loosened in Malaysia, the country will remain one of the top choices for international students, particularly those from Brunei Darussalam. This was said by Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Dato’ Raja Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah during the launch of Study in Malaysia Education Fair at Goldstone Ballroom of the Centrepoint Hotel yesterday. The envoy said the event is organised by Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) in collaboration with the Malaysian High Commission in Brunei Darussalam. The exhibition – physically for the first time in years due to the COVID-19 outbreak – allowed students, teachers and parents in the Sultanate to learn more about higher learning in Malaysia. The high commissioner expressed hope that visitors to the education fair offered an opportunity to gather information from participating universities’ representatives. The event began with a cultural performance by local dancers followed by speeches from EMGS Chief Executive Officer Mohd Radzlan bin Jalaludin and the Malaysian diplomat. With successes in Middle East and North Africa, South Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania, Europe – and now its first event in Brunei – EMGS aims to provide Malaysian universities face-to-face consultation with prospective students and their parents. Some 14 Malaysian universities participated in the one-day exhibition yesterday: Raffles University; Imperium International College; Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU); Management and Science University (MSU); Taylor’s University; Universiti Malaya (UM); Manipal International University; Sunway University; SEGi College Kuala Lumpur; Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UNIKL); Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR); Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM); Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM); and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). Mohd Radzlan revealed that EMGS will have discussions with Dato’ Raja Reza to establish and strengthen networking between Malaysian and Bruneian higher education stakeholders. In its efforts to fortify ‘Study in Malaysia’ branding, EMGS will be organising Study in Malaysia Global Alumni Networking Dinner to connect with the alumni in Brunei. EMGS data shows that more than 1,000 Bruneian applications to study in Malaysia were received between January 2019 and June 2022.
