Azlan Othman Leadership and governance point towards the role of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as the main engine of the government in spearheading leadership and governance centred on the practice of ‘always doing good deeds with guidance from Allah the Almighty’ that upholds the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy, the constitution and laws, towards preserving and safeguarding the citizens and residents of the Sultanate. This was highlighted by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud at a dialogue session between the PMO and Legislative Council (LegCo) members yesterday. The minister stressed that with its mission of spearheading the development, coordination and implementation of policies and priorities of the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the PMO is the main government agency that supports the realisation of the ideals of a Zikir Nation (remembrance of Allah) and fulfils the characteristics of Baldatun Tayyibatun Wa Rabbun Ghafur (a Peaceful and prosperous nation that is blessed by Allah the Almighty). To that end, the PMO has a leading role in developing an engine of government that is inherently excellent and esteemed that practises a form of governance that adheres to Islamic teachings and inculcates the principles of MIB, while protecting the integrity of the constitution and the laws in the interests of religion, monarchy, nation and country. Minister at the PMO and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah attended the meeting virtually. Attorney General Honourable Haji Ahmad bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa was also present. The 17-member delegation from the LegCo was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Putera Maharaja Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Ghani bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Dewa Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Rahim. In his speech, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Putera Maharaja Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Ghani called on his colleagues to bring matters of national interests to the dialogue, while matters at the district level be raised with district offices. A group photograph session was also held, followed by a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa. Permanent secretaries and deputy permanent secretaries at the PMO, heads of departments and senior officers also attended. The session serves as a platform for the PMO to provide the latest information on its achievements and services to ensure the well-being of the people in achieving Brunei Vision 2035, while enabling both parties to share ideas, views and suggestions to improve the service delivery of the PMO.
