The Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) expressed admiration for the discipline and commitment shown by Japanese football fans and players during events like the World Cup. FABD President Pengiran Haji Matusin bin Pengiran Haji Matasan highlighted Japan's success in hosting the 2002 World Cup and their model conduct on and off the field as inspiration for Brunei's football development. The JFA has been supporting FABD since 2015 through donations of equipment, merchandise, and personnel, including Japanese coach Hanita Atsushi.
