Awards of Merit from the Japanese government were presented to four contributors of past ASEAN-Japan cooperation activities. They were Head of Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) of Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) Haji Mas Zuraime bin Haji Abdul Hamid; Musashino Institute for Global Affairs of the Musashino University Fellow Professor Ryozo Hayashi; co-founder and chairman of the Indonesia Cyber Awareness and Resilience Center (IdCARE) at the University of Indonesia Dr Muhammad Salman; and expert at the Supervisory Policy and Standard Center Electronic Transactions Development Agency of the Thai Ministry of Digital Economy and Society Thongchai Sangsiri. The commendation ceremony was held to honour individuals who have made significant contributions in the field of cybersecurity in ASEAN-Japan. The ceremony was held during the International Conference on ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Community (IC-AJCC) hosted by Japan’s National Center of Incident Readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NISC), in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of ASEAN and Japan relations, at Meiji Kinenkan in Tokyo, Japan on October 5 and 6. PHOTO: CSB The Sultanate also participated in the IC-AJCC exhibition, with ITPSS Sdn Bhd showcasing their award-winning product iDentiti, a blockchain-powered digital identity solution. In addition, the Brunei Cyber Security Association (BCSA) participated in the exhibition to support cooperation with other cybersecurity communities. The two-day conference was attended by cybersecurity professionals and experts from ASEAN and Japan including government officials, policymakers, researchers and academics. Participants also included industry representatives, non-governmental organisations, and international organisations with interest in collaborating on cybersecurity issues. Brunei Darussalam was represented by Interim Commissioner of CSB Shamsul Bahri bin Haji Kamis and Head of BruCERT Haji Mas Zuraime bin Haji Abdul Hamid. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was also held between nine organisations from ASEAN and Japan. The MoU aims to facilitate the exchange of information on cybersecurity threats, incidents, and their solutions, and to promote cooperation for security awareness and capacity building. Signing the MoU were representatives from BCSA, Information Sharing and Analysis Centre Cambodia (ISAC-Cambodia), Indonesia Network Security Association (idNSA), Japan Network Security Association (JNSA), Malaysia CyberSecurity Community (rawSEC), Philippine Computer Emergency Response Team (PHCERT), Association of Information Security Professionals Singapore (AiSP), Thailand Information Security Association (TISA), and Vietnam Information Security Association (VNISA). President of BCSA Mohamad Azad Zaki bin Haji Mohd Tahir signed the MoU on behalf of BCSA. He said, “The shared experiences and successful strategies emerging from this alliance will serve as a blueprint for other international collaborations, inspiring a global community united against cyber threats.”
