James Kon Leaders in the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) must possess strong leadership values and lead by example to maintain peace, prosperity and maritime sovereignty of Brunei Darussalam. This was said by RBN Commander First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry bin Haji Serudi @ Haji Seruji during the parade ceremony for RBN’s 57th anniversary at the RBN Parade Square yesterday. The commander inspected the parade line and witnessed the marching of the parade, led by Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Hasmin bin Haji Hashim, RBN. The parade continued with the presentation of awards and certificates to RBN officers and sailors for their achievements, including the presentation of the Principal Warfare Officer badge to Lieutenant Commander Mohamad Husaini bin Haji Mohamad Sofian, RBN and Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Shahrul Idham bin Haji Bungsu, RBN. The Fast Patrol Vessel Commanding Officer’s Certificate was awarded to Lieutenant Commander Mohd Nabil bin Jalil, RBN and Lieutenant Commander Nazurah binti Haji Mahaleh, RBN. The Landing Craft Coxswain’s Certificate was awarded to Warrant Officer 2 Shahirul Affendy bin Mohammad Rakawi, Warrant Officer 2 Addey Affendy bin Ali Hussin, and Warrant Officer 2 Mohammad Sopian bin Abdul Rahman. Other awards included: the Sauh Emas award for Warrant Officer 2 presented to Mohammad Ariwan bin Mohammad, RBN; the Bintang Harapan award for Able Rate Muhammad Arifshahdan bin Matzainin, RBN; the Best Engineer awarded to Lieutenant Awangku Abdul Rauf Bahar bin Pengiran Haji Yusof, RBN and Warrant Officer 2 Alihan bin Haji Puteh, RBN. Lieutenant Junior Grade Nabilah Sa’adatul Hayat binti Shamsul Hayat, RBN was also awarded the Rules of the Road Master award for achieving excellence in the monthly examinations on the Rules of the Road. Awards were also presented to the best male and female athletes to commend their outstanding fitness abilities. Recipients of the best male athletes were Lieutenant Wan Izz Zafir Alawi bin Mohammad Kassim, RBN, and Able Rate Haji Syaza Naqiuddin bin Haji Nafiah, RBN; while the best female athletes were Lieutenant Junior Grade Dayangku Nur Amrina binti Pengiran Abdul Aziz, RBN, and Ordinary Rate Noorsuriani binti Rusman, RBN. RBN Religious Officer Muhammad Sabqi bin Nasar, meanwhile, led the recitation of Doa Selamat. A series of events have been conducted in conjunction with RBN’s 57th anniversary, including cleaning campaigns at Muslim cemeteries, donations to former RBN members, and religious events such as Tahlil at the Royal Mausoleum, Khatam Al-Quran and Doa Kesyukuran ceremonies. More events will be held to commemorate the anniversary, including dinners at all RBN messes, a blood donation campaign and an office open day at year’s end.
