James Kon Digitalisation of the energy sector is now imperative, due to the challenges from the pandemic, where there is a real need to speed up digital transformation activities to reduce cost, increase efficiency and remain competitive. This was highlighted during the virtual workshop for the oil and gas industry, ‘Transforming the Digital Future of Energy’ organised by Dynamik Technologies Sdn Bhd and supported by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam. Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Managing Director of Petroleum Authority Brunei Darussalam Haji Azhar bin Haji Yahya was the guest of honour. Chief Executive Officer of Dynamik Technologies Haslina binti Haji Mohd Taib said, “COVID-19 created a window to drive transformative change, according to to insights by McKinsey on digital transformation in energy. Companies and workers had been forced to accelerate the use of basic digital tools for remote work. But largely, it was because of disruption in the status quo.” She added, “While technology aims to meet business needs and requirements that ultimately contribute to reducing costs and increasing efficiency to remain competitive, the focus is not just on technology. People continue to be at the heart of the cause because transformation involves change. How do we create a change culture for transformation to be sustainable?” At Dynamik Technologies, she said, “After working with many of our clients, transformation happens through re-imagining end-to-end business processes and workflows considering all users in the chain. Transformation happens when all the stakeholders involved own the problem, the process, the people and are willing to take bite-sized actions in facilitating everyone through the journey. PHOTO: JAMES KON In the energy industry, she said “We have been able to do our part in providing solutions ranging from supporting wells maintenance, plant operations efficiencies as well as human resource management portals and learning management systems.” The CEO also underlined the importance of the energy industry as the heart of Brunei’s economy, leveraging technology partners and solutions to thrive and lead the way into tomorrow’s digital economy. Chief technology officers, heads of IT and key officials from major local oil and gas companies – Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam, Brunei Shell Petroleum, Brunei Gas Carriers, Total, Brunei Fertilizer Industries and Brunei Methanol\ Company participated. The workshop also featured multiple digitalisation case studies and success stories delivered for energy industry key players globally. The presentation was shared by Dynamik Technologies’ partner for low code platform, Outsystems, a Leader in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Low-Code Application Platforms 2021. The Outsystems low code platform is a visual, model-driven development utilising Artificial Intelligence, DevOps and cloud technologies to develop faster, better and future-proof enterprise applications and software. Dynamik Technologies was recently named an Outsystems Partner of the Year (Asia-Pacific) for 2021 in recognition of its activities to promote, develop and upskill in low code platform, applications, and resources.
