Three top participants of the Seeds for the Future 2023 (SFTF 2023) programme received internship invitation from Huawei Technologies (B) Sdn Bhd at the programme’s closing ceremony, organised by Huawei in collaboration with Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) at the university yesterday. UNISSA student Nur Amal Afiqah binti Muhammad Nor Risman, from the Syariah and Law Faculty, along with Universiti Teknologi Brunei student Ahmad Ihsanuddin bin Haji Mohamed from School of Computing and Informatics and Universiti Brunei Darussalam student Junaid Al-Ghazali bin Muhammad Fadhillah from the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences received the invitations. Meanwhile, Nur Waa’fa binti Haji Hamidun received the Team Leader Award (Seeds Stars) along with two other participants from Moldova and Romania. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Huawei Brunei Tong Wei Shiang thanked the Faculty of Islamic Technology (FIT) at UNISSA, particularly former dean Dr Hajah Tiawa binti Haji Hamid, for jointly organising the eight-day programme. He said SFTF 2023 provided a platform for participants to deepen their knowledge in the latest technologies such as 5G, cloud computer, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital power. PHOTO: LYNA MOHAMAD “Huawei is committed to continuously contribute in the aspect of technology and specialists towards producing a competitive young generation towards Brunei Vision 2035 through programmes such as this,” he added. Meanwhile, Dean of FIT Professor Dr Haji Abdul Hafidz bin Haji Omar emphasised the importance of learning and gaining knowledge and relevant skills in latest technology and innovation related to the topics learned by the SFTF 2023 participants. He added that the investment in the topics learnt will be fruitful in the future, in line with the programme’s objectives. The dean also shared his delight at the commitment showcased by the 32 participants and the guidance by mentors from Indonesia and coordinators from Malaysia throughout the programme. He also congratulated the participants for completing the programme and receiving the recognition for their effort to be digitally ready in facing changing needs. Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Chin Wei Keh officiated the event. Also present at the closing ceremony were UNISSA Acting Rector Dr Hajah Lilly Suzana binti Haji Shamsu, assistant rectors, core officers at the university, representatives from higher learning institutions, agencies and participating students. SFTF 2023 was initiated with the objectives to instil young talents in the field of ICT who have gained skills and interests in exploring the technology field to contribute in the development of local digital community. It began on September 18 to and involved 32 students from several higher learning institutions in the country. – Lyna Mohamad
