Over 5,000 Laksamana College of Business (LCB) students have completed courses at the college ranging from 28 different programmes at Certificate and Diploma level upwards from 2003 to date, LCB and Kensington College of Business Director and Principal Ian Pirie said. He said this during a graduation ceremony for 391 LCB students held at the Songket Ballroom of The Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong on Thursday. Pirie also shared the college’s development which includes its new partnership to deliver the University of Essex degrees in Business Management, Marketing, Accounting, Computer Science and International Tourism Management in Brunei. The partnership with Essex made it possible to provide access to a UK law degree for the first time to be studied partly in Brunei. Students will be able to study a Foundation year, followed by years 1 and 2 in Brunei with the final year on campus in Essex. The principal also shared that LCB has undertaken development works to the campus as it continues to grow its courses and student numbers. “You will all have seen the bridge connecting the original campus to a new building recently extending the campus to a total of 80,000 square feet,” he said. In addition there are three lecture halls and a roof top auditorium and function room built for student and public use. Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh was the guest of honour. The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by Haji Khairul Ariffin bin Haji Yusop. Department of Computer Science Head and University of Chester, United Kingdom (UK) lecturer Andrew Muncey and British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam John Virgoe also addressed the gathering. The education I received, the relationships I built, and the experiences I had have shaped who I am today,“ she said. “I extend my gratitude to LCB for being instrumental in my achievement of first-class honours. The lecturers’ dedication and the comprehensive curriculum challenged me to reach beyond my limits, fostering a deep understanding in my field of study. “I am excited to carry the lessons and experiences from LCB as I embark on the next chapter of my journey,” Dayangku Nur Amirah Mahirah added. – Adib Noor
