***Ministry of Defence*** Adib Noor The Ministry of Defence (MinDef) yesterday presented donations to 74 orphans, comprising 35 males and 39 females from families of officers and staff of the ministry and 18 aid recipients, in a charity event at Surau Ad Difa’, Bolkiah Garrison. Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof presented the donations. Acting permanent secretary and deputy permanent secretaries as well as officers and staff of the ministry also attended. The event began with the recitation of Zikir, Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil, led by Imam of Surau Ad-Difa’ Khairol Azmi bin Haji Salleh. Acting Belait District Officer Mohamad Yassin bin Haji Ahmed received the donations on behalf from BMC Corporate Affairs Manager Saifulillah bin Haji Ahmid. The delegation was welcomed by the school’s Chairman of the Board Koh Han Yong, former chairman Ang Ping Hui and principal Thong Kawang Soon as well as board members, teachers, and students. “Mutual respect, good neighbourliness and friendliness, helping those in need in times of difficulties, generosity and charity are traditional virtues of the Chinese people. I am delighted to extend the care and good wishes to the students during Ramadhan on behalf of the Chinese Embassy,” the envoy said. The gifts comprised daily necessities such as rice and cooking oil, as well as other items such as a t-shirt and a pin commemorating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei, magnet of the Brunei Primary School Students’ Painting Competition organised by the embassy, and a cap of China-Brunei Year of Tourism. Wang expressed hope that the students and their families could feel the warmth, good wishes and friendship from China, and that the students would actively participate in future cultural activities organised by the embassy and grow up to be messengers of bilateral ties. Since its establishment in 1950 and despite difficulties, such as geographical remoteness, inconvenient transportation and smaller number of students, Wang said Pai Yuek School has always adhered to the traditions of a Chinese school – teaching Chinese language, offering calligraphy courses, and advancing Chinese education, especially in promoting close relations among ethnic groups. “The Chinese Embassy has always been concerned with the development of Chinese schools and Chinese education in Brunei, and actively rendered support in this regard. Pai Yuek School has the highest percentage of Malay students among the eight Chinese schools in the Sultanate. PHOTO: CHINESE EMBASSY IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM *** ***Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre*** Lyna Mohamad Sixty volunteers, comprising senior management, heads of departments, healthcare professionals and staff of the Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC), participated in a Ramadhan donation drive, jointly organised by PJSC Ibadah Friendly Hospital Committee and Medical Social Work Department last Sunday. Corporate contributors Menara EE Sdn Bhd and TLT Enterprise, who contributed to the donations, also participated. The donation drive saw 23 patients under the Medical Social Work Department receive the donations as part of PJSC’s annual corporate social responsibility programme to provide patients and their families with basic necessities for the holy month of Ramadhan and in preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations. The event was also aimed at strengthening bonds among the healthcare professionals and patients, in line with PJSC’s mission and ‘We Care’ core values. A total of BND7,600 and protective equipment, such as face masks, hand sanitisers and antigen rapid test (ART) kits, were distributed. The campaign was part of Hengyi’s corporate social responsibility initiative to provide aid and lessen the burden of orphans and selected families residing in Pekan Muara and Kampong Serasa during the month of Ramadhan and ahead of Hari Raya celebrations. PHOTO: HENGYI *** ***Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd*** Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST), under the annual Ihsan Kasih charity programme, aims to distribute basic necessities and healthcare packs to 100 underprivileged families across the country through the Ihsan Kasih Ramadhan Charity Drive during this holy month of Ramadhan. Unlike previous years, the network provider has enlisted 22 registered runners, in support of their small delivery services, to work together with DST volunteers to deliver the donations. The journey began in the second week of Ramadhan to families in Brunei-Muara District, followed by a trip to Kuala Belait earlier this week, joined by DST Chief Executive Officer Radin Sufri bin Radin Basiuni. The charity drive will continue until the end of Ramadhan, which will see volunteers distribute donations to families in Tutong and Temburong districts. PHOTO: DST *** ***Baiduri Bank*** In the second event of the ‘Let’s Give Back This Ramadhan’ series, Baiduri Bank’s volunteers organised a shopping excursion for 10 underprivileged families in Tutong District yesterday, purchasing household items and basic necessities for the families as their ‘personal shoppers’ at Hua Ho, Petani Mall, Tutong District. The initiative aimed to bring festive cheer to underprivileged families across the country by taking them shopping in preparation for Hari Raya celebrations. The families in Tutong District were identified through non-profit organisation The Impian Project. In previous years, the bank would organise a shopping activity for selected families and end the event with breaking of the fast together. Due to current restrictions, and for the safety and comfort of the families, the bank’s volunteers acted as ‘personal shoppers’ and helped purchase items on behalf of the families. This year’s initiative will conclude with families in Kuala Belait today. *** ***Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd*** Daniel Lim The Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd (Brunei LNG) last Wednesday conducted a two-day drive-through donation at their main office in Lumut for 176 orphans, as part of the company’s social investment strategy to extend a helping hand to members of the community in need. Brunei LNG Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Hajah Farida binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib handed over the donations comprising cash, healthcare packages, rice and goodie bags for children, together with representatives of the Brunei LNG leadership team, in the presence of Kampong Lumut II Village Head Haji Khairdon bin Haji Dahlan. BGC Managing Director Pengiran Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha led the event, accompanied by Kampong Jerudong ‘A’ Acting Village Head Haji Kharul Azmi bin Haji Lakat and BGC management team.
