Repost. Once upon a time, Brunei had a railway in the Belait district which is now abandoned. The public used to be able to take a train from Seria to Badas making it the only public railway in Brunei. Photos from the web.

They should have kept this as a heritage site, I wonder if some tracks still exist or not. Knowing how slow things usually develops here, I assume there might be a whole station left to rot in the jungle somewhere lol

As someone who enjoys locomotives, I wish that rather than scrapping all these engines and leaving them to rot, we could have at least preserved them into a heritage railway. But oh well, it’s Brunei we’re talking about.
If I am not mistaken picture 5 shows what seems to be a Galloping Goose (railcar basically a car that got converted into a railcar)

The train is also on display in front of the Maritime Museum in Kota Batu if anyone’s interested to have a view.
Edit: I don’t think it’s this particular one though

As far as the history of the railways in Brunei, most of these were initiated by James Brooke during his time and the main purpose for the railroads were for coal mining. Evidence of this would be seen at The James Brooke Coal Mine in Muara which has been abandoned. This was the main reason why the railway was being built and used in the first place.

I found the information below and here's a summary
Once upon a time, Brunei had a railway! Picturesque trains once rolled from Seria to Badas, making it the only public railway in the country. Now, it’s a ghostly reminder of the past, sparking imaginations of trains lost in the jungle and a heritage site that could have been! How cool would it be to explore those abandoned tracks or see a vintage locomotive on display?
