The spirit of Ramadhan continues to burn brightly as the nation enters the final week of the holy month with members of communities and organisations coming together for iftar and charity events. Yesterday, 264 orphans from nine villages in Mukim Sengkurong received donations from Director of Arzwanina Sdn Bhd and Jaafariya Supermarket Haji Jabar Sadiq. Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Zainol bin Mohamed and Haji Jabar presented the donations of cash and hampers to the orphans in a ceremony at the Mukim Sengkurong Community Hall. An iftar was also hosted for the orphans. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) handed over donations to 35 orphans of the ministry’s staff yesterday. Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at the MoRA Haji Mislee bin Haji Abd Karim handed over the donations. The Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) recently handed over donations to some 52 orphans and underprivileged students as part of their Infaq Ramadhan 4.0 charity programme. Centre Director Pengiran Dr Hajah Norkhairiah binti Pengiran Haji Hashim handed over the donations. The centre also donated to cleaners, labourers and security guards assigned to the UNISSA Sinaut Campus. The event aimed to assist the orphans in making preparations for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration and ease their burdens. Motohead MG, a motorcycle association, recently hosted iftar for orphans of its members. The association’s President Haji Shamrah bin Nasir handed over Raya hampers, basic necessities and cash to three recipients. The Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce recently hosted an iftar for members of the diplomatic corps at the Mangrove Resort Restaurant recently. The guests included High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona, Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Raja Dato’ Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah and Turkish Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Professor Dr Hamit Esroy. The Paraplegic and Physically Handicapped Association (PAPDA) recently held an iftar with its members at its premises in Kampong Kiarong. PAPDA Deputy Chairman Haji Sahari bin Haji Tinggal presented some 60 association members with duit Raya before the breaking of fast. Meanwhile, Bright Jigsaw School held a donation ceremony for orphans at the STKRJ Lambak Kiri Mosque recently. Some 10 orphans studying at the school and 20 orphans from Kampong Lambak Kiri received donations. The event also saw a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony for the school’s students. A Khatam Al-Quran ceremony was also held for Rakaan Seliaan (supervisory partners) at the Reintegration Centre of the Prisons Department yesterday. The Islamic Da’wah Centre hosted the event through its Dakwah Propagation Division (Counselling) in collaboration with the centre and the Aftercare Support Association (AFSA) yesterday.
