A 32-year-old Bangladeshi man residing in Brunei, Sohag Sarder, was fined BND12,056 by the Magistrate's Court for possessing smuggled cigarettes and liquor. He pleaded guilty to possessing 15 cartons and 12 packets of various cigarette brands and a bottle of liquor. The defendant was apprehended by road traffic police on February 9th while driving along the Sungai Akar highway. If he fails to pay the fine, Sarder faces a one-year jail sentence. The confiscated cigarettes and liquor will be destroyed.
