James Kon After a three-year hiatus, the Insurance and Takaful Day made a comeback with the theme ‘Ensuring Together: Health, Wellness and Protection for All’, held at Times Square Shopping Centre Atrium yesterday. Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) Managing Director Hajah Rokiah binti Haji Badar was the guest of honour. Brunei Insurance and Takaful Association (BITA) Chairman Haji Shahrildin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Utama Dato Paduka Haji Jaya in his welcoming remarks said, “Throughout the COVID-19 period and the challenges that we faced, we are grateful and thankful to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Government on the benevolent care overseeing the country’s safety with regards to health and economic stability.” The insurance and takaful industry, he said, “sustained its business operations throughout COVID-19 with the continuous relationship with stakeholders including customers, business partners and government agencies. The key word here is relationship, which is back to basics and a fundamental success factor for the Insurance and Takaful industry moving forward.” Touching on Insurance and Takaful, Haji Shahrildin Pehin Dato Haji Jaya, who is also the Managing Director and CEO Takaful Brunei, said “is a paper contract or promise for us to protect and help in the event of an unfortunate incident. The event showcased insurance and takaful products and services where the public can discover how they can build financial security and be protected at the same time. This year, as part of its community and social responsibility activity, BITA is participating in the SCOT Education 2022 initiative organised by the Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT). The project hopes to reach and assist both primary and secondary underprivileged students across the country with school necessities. BITA’s chairman presented a cheque for BND3,000 to SCOT representatives Muhammad Nasrullah bin Haji Puzian and Ida Faizah binti Haji Ibrahim. The event featured activities such as a blood donation drive organised by the Jerudong Park Medical Centre, health and wellness booths by the Health Promotion Centre of the Ministry of Health and fitness challenges by Fitness Zone, where the public stood a chance to win shopping vouchers up to BND50.
