A recent survey by the ASEAN Studies Centre revealed that increased military tensions in flashpoints like the South China Sea, climate change and economic recession are Brunei's top three concerns. 75% of Bruneians surveyed expressed worry about potential conflict, while 74.2% cited climate threats as a major issue.  Nearly half (49.2%) were also concerned about unemployment and economic downturn. The survey highlighted broader regional anxieties regarding recessionary pressures, military tensions, and the effectiveness of ASEAN. China emerged as the most influential power, while Japan was deemed the most trustworthy major power.
