Azlan Othman & Rokiah Mahmud Pensioner Limin bin Gantang said he is thankful that he now has a proper roof over his and his three children’s heads, having lived in a dilapidated wooden house with no power before. The widower received a single-storey house with three bedrooms at a cost of BND89,391.23 from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs at the site of his old house in Kampong Junjongan yesterday. “I am grateful for the assistance from MUIB, having applied for it five years ago,” Limin told the Bulletin. He retired from public service in April. “Actually, I applied twice, with my first application way back in 2000. I applied again through my wife, Alimah binti Jamaluddin, who passed away two years ago.” He added, “For extra income, I sell fruits like, durian and tibadak, to my friends.” Limin received a plaque from Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman as the President of MUIB. Meanwhile, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad presented housing assistance to Abdul Ahad bin Haji Lampong in Kampong Lumapas. She received a two-bedroom bungalow house at the cost of BND79,485 at a Temporary Occupation Licence in Kampong Junjongan. “I have six children, and five are married and live separately. Only my husband, my son and I will live in this house,” she told the Bulletin. Sekenah is self-employed and grows crops, along with her husband. “Prior to this, we lived in a remote farmland owned by my brother-in-law. It had no electricity and water supply,” she said. The Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddiin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, through MUIB and other government agencies, strives to lessen the burden of the poor and destitute. After waiting almost eight years, Siti Rokiah binti Haji Idris and her family now have a permanent place to call home. She received her house completion certificate under the Poor, Needy and Destitute Housing Assistance Project yesterday during a ceremony at her new residence in Kampong Limau Manis. Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid handed over the certificate. The BND85,553.69 house comes equipped with three bedrooms. According to her, they have been living in a barrack, and after her husband passed away, they rented a house as they had no other place to live. She applied for housing assistance from the MUIB.“Alhamdulillah, after waiting for so long, we finally have a place to call our own. “The house was built on my late husband’s land and funded by MUIB in collaboration with various government agencies,” she said. She expressed gratitude to His Majesty for taking care of the monarch’s subjects. Meanwhile, another housing assistance recipient Norjanah binti Haji Bakar, 57, felt the same gratitude to the government for the house provided to her and her family. Norjanah is a full-time housewife while her husband works as a driver earning a daily wage of BND35. She also receives a monthly zakat distribution of BND200 and basic needs assistance of BND65 each for two persons as well as school assistance of BND60 monthly starting next month until November 2024. Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, in his capacity as the Vice-President of MUIB, handed over the house completion certificate in Kampong Limau Manis. The construction of the house amounting BND89,984.45 also includes three bedrooms.
