The inaugural Business Forum, organised by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce (CCC) Bandar Seri Begawan, aimed to spur business opportunities in Brunei by addressing ‘How to Succeed in a Small Economy’. CCC President Lim Han Chiong highlighted the forum’s relevance for all business sectors represented, emphasising the need for collaboration and innovation.
The event, held yesterday at a hotel in Kampong Kiulap, was attended by 168 participants.
Chairman of Asia Inc Forum Dato Timothy Ong, the guest of honour, delivered the keynote address.
Lim Han Chiong said that exploring business opportunities beyond Brunei and engaging with foreign investors is essential for growth, and that the business landscape has changed significantly, where strategies that once ensured wealth may no longer be effective due to rapid advancements in technology, geopolitical shifts, and climate change.
“Despite these changes, businesses continue to thrive by fostering trust and building mutually beneficial relationships,” he said.
“It is in this spirit that we come together openly today to share our experiences and knowledge to ensure collective success in this small economy,” he said.
The forum featured Dato Timothy Ong’s address, where he cited examples of successful businesses from other small nations and discussed practical strategies for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
One of the panel discussions was focused on prospering through digital technology, collaboration, and foreign trade, with panellists exploring ways to drive Brunei’s economy forward. – Lyna Mohamad
