The Brunei Darussalam Association of Writers (Asterawani) recently held a ceremony to honor three prominent figures for their contributions to Brunei's literary, cultural, and educational landscapes. Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman received the Southeast Asian Literary Council (Mastera) award for his unique Islamic poetry. Pengiran Haji Mahmud bin Pengiran Damit was honored with the Distinguished Teacher Award for his impactful short stories and contributions to language education. Professor Ampuan Dr Haji Brahim bin Ampuan Haji Tengah, a long-time academic at Universiti Brunei Darussalam, received Malaysia’s National Book Award: Distinguished Scholar Lifetime Achievement Award for his scholarly works on Bruneian history and culture.
