His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam graced the get-together ceremony, held in conjunction with the monarch’s 78th birthday celebration, for residents of the Brunei-Muara District yesterday. Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah. Thousands of well-wishers gathered at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien by early dawn, looking to get the best spots to enjoy the field performance. Meanwhile, schoolchildren lined the streets, waving mini-flags to greet the royal entourage, which was also met with beats of the *hadrah* as they arrived at the field. After the national anthem, His Majesty witnessed a performance by some 200 youth. Themed ‘*Raja Untuk Rakyat, Rakyat Untuk Raja*’, the traditional performance was divided into three segments – ‘*Berdatang Sembah’*, ‘*Raja Payung Mahkota*’ and ‘*Raja Khalifah Teraju Negara*’. His Majesty later met with the performers and toured the booths allocated to well-wishers comprising residents, private organisations and various associations and non-governmental organisations.
